"The toughest part is that there isn’t one way to do anything. The best part is that I get to help people look good and feel good". Enjoy our interview with Stylist Kristopher Johnson.

Beauty Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Kristopher Johnson. I have always loved doing hair and fashion. I love putting the two together. I am currently a licensed cosmetologist an I am seizing every opportunity that presents itself, whether it be a competition or a fashion show. This year has been the year of many shows and competitions like Battle of the Strands.

Beauty Did you always want to be a hairstylist?

I have always wanted to pursue a career in hair, but I didn’t realize how important the world of cosmetology is to me until I graduated high school and decided to study a different profession. This is because I’ve always felt like I was missing out. Now I am making my dream come true, and it is finally a reality!

Beauty What prompted you to get into hair?

My Family. I used to watch my sisters do their hair for hours and hours, and when my sisters taught me how to do my first braid…I was sold!

Beauty What's the biggest challenge you faced on your road to becoming a Hairstylist?

Balancing my obligations with my aspirations.

Beauty Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration in Everything. TV shows, the internet, magazines, my friends, and my family.

Beauty If I asked your educator one negative and one strength about you what would they be?

Detail, for the positive and negative. My instructors would say it’s a negative thing because I like to take my time and being precise and as close to perfect as possible. My instructors would say it’s a positive thing because they know I am very passionate about the hair that I do.

Beauty What is the toughest and best part of styling hair?

The toughest part is that there isn’t one way to do anything. The best part is that I get to help people look good and feel good.

Beauty Whose hair would you love to work on?

Oprah, Gabrielle Union, Mary J Blige, Tamar Braxton, Tracie Ellis Ross, and Queen LaTifah

Beauty Can you tell us a memorable moment you had while doing hair?

The most recent was when I volunteered to do hair for FAB Weekend in Scottsdale, AZ. I was doing hair for about 5 hours and then went to the show with the models and after they all walked in the show I started to say my goodbyes. The Designer says “please don’t leave, it’s a competition and if our team gets called I want you to go up with the team.” Surprisingly, I didn’t realize this was a competition and ironically we placed 3rd over 20 other teams.

Beauty What’s the one haircare tool you simply can’t live without?

I can’t live without my flat iron because I’m a beast without it!

Beauty Tell us about First Class Demeanor?

When we think of first class we think of professional, high fashion, very exclusive when you think first class you think elite Demeanor is our presence, body language and personality.

Beauty What's your preparation for Battle of the Strands?

We had weekly meetings with the entire team and continuously challenged ourselves.

Beauty What can the hair industry expect from Kristopher Johnson in the next 5 years?

You can expect me to be a positive role model and travel to make my clients even more beautiful. Also, education is very important to me and I am going to get my instructors license as soon as possible.

Beauty What can your competition expect in Las Vegas?

They can expect First Class Demeanor to think outside of the box and working off of each other’s ideas as a team. I will motivate my team to push boundaries and to be the Best.
